The Animals

For such a small island there are quite a few animals. Cows are roaming wild throughout the whole island as well as dogs and horses. We had to laugh when a little horse came strolling down the street and stopped to graze in people’s yards. We met a friendly stray dog that followed us to the beach. Nate demonstrated what he did in Brazil to get rid of those pesky dogs. He bent down like he was picking up a rock and immediately the poor dog’s tail went between its legs and he ran off. The dogs run around the island everywhere. They randomly walk into the restaurants and beg for food. Late one night one dog started howling and the next thing we knew the whole entire islands dog population was howling! A little annoying. Then there was the crazy lizard who came into the house. Nate went to hit him out of the house and the poor guys tail fell off. He is still a member of the household. We see him every other day or so. I guess there are flamingos somewhere but we haven’t ventured upon them yet. There are so many others like crabs, ospreys, huge cockroaches, and hummingbirds just to name a few. Oh yeah let us not forget the mosquitoes. They are secretive little guys. You never see them, but somehow when you wake up in the morning your whole body is covered in little bites. We’ve put on so much mosquito repellent that I’m sure we will have at least 75% deet in our system when we get home! Poor Nate is allergic to them and he has huge bumps all over! I’m sure there are countless more insects that I am trying to never see! Wildlife at it’s best.

PS Just a note I really do apologize for the picture posted yesterday. It was out of my hands.
