This deals directly with Tuesday’s post which maybe you should read again to refresh your memory.
I am afraid that in heaven we will get to play around with the “what ifs” of our lives. With a better knowledge of how things come about I fear that we may find out how much of an influence we as individuals had on the rest of the world. Some philosophers have called this the “butterfly effect” which says that a butterfly that flaps its wings in Brazil may have a slight effect on the air which turns into a breeze and that this breeze may over time change into a wind which travels over the ocean, grows in size, and eventually affects the weather of the entire world. How much change a butterfly flapping its wings in Brazil actually does is debatable but conveys an interesting idea.
How many times have you been treated poorly and let it affect your mood? I know that it happens to me almost every day. I know that there have been countless times in my life that I could have been more conscientious of my actions and probably changed my attitude to brighten someone else’s day instead of put them down. I wonder how far these repercussions have traveled and how many lives I have affected. I am sure a lot of you are familiar with that “six degrees” thing; that you are connected with everyone in the world through six people or less. Even though that connection sounds outrageous, it probably isn’t. Think of how many people you have met and encountered throughout your life. The sheer number of people that you could have possibly influenced by your actions or inaction is frightening. I just hope that if in heaven I get to play “Nate’s choose your own adventure game” I will be willing to accept whatever fate I may have placed upon some other unknown individual.
