Change of Venue

I am moving my blog over to a different site. Our lives in turkey and cake are long gone and so I felt impressed to change over to a new improved site with a more specific focus on something I enjoy talking about.
Update your links and meet me over at my new place residing at http://thegeeklet.blogspot.com

If for some reason you would like to read about our incredible life in the British West Indies you may do so by visiting our earlier posts located on the right sidebar.

update

So part of me really wanted to have a kid soon and I attribute some of those feelings to my accidental discovery of a Wired magazine affiliate called "Geekdad" which discusses all of the many things geeky that we can buy or create to make our children happier such as these lifelike hands that help the baby feel like it is being held by Thing from the Adam's Family. I have learned how to make all sorts of things from water bottle rockets to mousetrap cars. I am also completely up-to-date on all the new Lego's available thanks to the folks at Geekdad. What a great website.

I recently started looking up clothing available for kids and I hope to get one or more novelty clothing items such as these listed below when our first comes rolling into town. There are some hilarious clothes for infants out there, some had me laughing pretty hard.

About a month ago I also started reading a lot about pregnancy. I know that I know more about what is happening with Brynn's body than she does but I try to act ignorant when she is questioning the changes she is experiencing.
In all it has been pretty exciting to see so many changes and things happening and to get to see this little peanut growing inside my wife's lower abdominal area. I am sure it will become even more crazy the further along we get.

I have forgotten a lot since high school

This is a pretty fun game I found on a favorite website of mine. I am surprised how much I have forgotten since geography in middle school. After trying a few times I got to level 6. If you go to the website there are several other quizes that are similar but more location specific.

surgery

My most recent ACL reconstruction is going okay. I think this surgeon did a great job and I should heal a lot better and faster. Still, the recovery is going to be miserable and I have been in a lot of pain this last week. Here is a nice picture from today of the holes that they put in me.

This second picture is more of the wife's style but I had to put this up. I feel totally cheesy but that is a dang cute shot of the 2 1/2 members of the family.

Snorkeling and the blues

The two highlights of our Hawaii trip were snorkeling at Sharks Cove and then meeting with and hearing Ron Artis and his family including Victor, Ron, PraiseJesus, Stevon, Thunderstorm, and America play some crazy good blues music. You may wonder how I know all of their names. I didn't even have to look them up because they all personally introduced themselves to us and were so cordial and friendly. I was a little skeptical when we first met the family. I mean, it is a family band, they can not be that good. Well I was definitely not disappointed. I feel like the stuff they have on YouTube is great but nothing compares to their live music. Here is an embedded link to one of their videos. You may need to download the DivX plugin to see this one on the blog. Do it.

CAREFUL!

I played the Wii for the first time this last week. Awesome. I was able to try out some baseball, Tiger Woods golf, and the WiiSports Tennis. What a great gaming concept, I absolutely loved it. The only game that is comparably fun is Guitar Hero. Careful to those that don't work out, my arm was a little sore the next day from swinging the remote around.

Backbreaker!

Chiropractors - The quick fix.
I have very negative memories of chiropractors. During lacrosse in high school I had some serious back problems and went to several different chiropractors that told me I just needed to be "re-aligned." After many visits I never really got any better so I went to a Sports Medicine Doctor who took x-rays and discovered I had scoliosis and there was nothing I could do to fix it but that by strengthening my core muscles I might function better, which ended up being true. I also went with my father to a chiropractor once because he had a stiff neck and I really thought that my dad was going to slaughter the guy because of how much pain he was putting him through. What is up with the profession? Are chiropractors just dying for more customers and money or do they really think they have the answers to so many of these problems?

Am I too old?

The wife and I went to the Utah State homecoming football game last night and Brynn made the comment "we are getting old." I then thought about how I just got accepted to the local community college and don't start nursing school until January. Am I starting this path a little too late? Probably.

The Aggie game by the way was just awful. Utah State really had the game won, but I have learned from my college years to never overestimate the USU football team. With 1:54 left on the clock and the team up by 4 I figured they had a good chance. San Jose then marched quickly down the field and had a long pass to a receiver on the 2 yard line. The throw was short and even the defender had time to stop and watch the pass coming. No attempt was made to bat the pass down or to intercept it but instead the corner gave the receiver a yard or two space and looked like he was preparing to tackle him once he caught the ball. HE WAS ON THE TWO YARD LINE. The receiver made the catch and then pulled the defender two yards into the endzone. I was dumbfounded. All I could think about was how in the hell did Jon and Jake not make the team.
Okay so then San Jose gets called for celebrating and has to kick from the 15 yard line. The kickoff goes maybe 35 yards and I swear the Utah State players were backing away to let the ball roll like they sometimes do on punts. Nobody went for the ball and it bounced back into the kickoff team's hands. Game over.
Luckily I wasn't expecting them to win but I really couldn't imagine how they were going
to pull off this loss. This Aggie football team just never ceases to amaze me.

On a lighter note, BYU looked fantastic.
