Skype

We walked back and forth several times over the past few days to a restaurant about 20 minutes away to update Brynn's Macintosh, and download Skype so that we could try to call our parents. Tomorrow we want to get a hold of DelSol so that we can talk to them in person and tell them what is and what isn't going on here. We did get a hold of my mother and father and it was nice to talk to them for a few minutes. When we got it working we were at a restaurant and Brynn and I were hunched over her keyboard talking to it and trying to hear my parents. We need to get a headset which will solve the problem of having a hard time hearing. Hopefully we will be able to use this fascinating technology more often to keep in touch with people. For those of you who don't know what Skype is al about, here is the rundown. Skype gives you the ability to call people from your computer over the internet for very cheap. Ideally everyone in the world would have internet and Skype on their computer because from computer to computer, all calls are free regardless of where you live. Calling a landline is free within the US but international calls to a landline are charged, albeit at a very low rate, a little over $0.01 per minute. We heard that Yahoo and MSN have similar services but neither are compatible with Macs so we are using Skype which offers a pretty good service and is very easy to use. I am definitely converted to this phone over the internet thing and recommend it to anyone that calls long distance regularly.
